I nearly successfully dealt with a privilige denying individual recently who was spouting the smashing the gender binary is more important than trans people feeling comfortable nonsense. Don’t tell me to smash the gender binary (and by that mean get rid of all genders) when you identify as a binary gender and you identify your potential partners as having a binary gender.

This so hard. Some people just don’t get it. (Emphasis mine.)

1) “You can’t actually want to be a man if you’re a feminist.” A man can be a feminist. Therefore, a transman can also be a feminist. My feminist ideologies do not mean I am not a man, or that I don’t really identify as a man. It doesn’t work that way. I am a feminist because I believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every living thing, and because I believe all people have the right to be treated with equal respect and dignity; and I am a man because I identify and present as one. I can be a transman and a feminist. My gender identity and my belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every living thing are not related.

2) “You only think you’re asexual because you hate your body.” I am not asexual because I am transgender. My lack of interest in sex is not due to feeling like my body doesn’t belong to me, or that I am “trapped” in a female body. It is not due to hating my body and therefore hating any tactile sensations that remind me of my body. It’s quite the contrary, actually: I love my body, and I am quite comfortable in it. I am not comfortable with how the world perceives me because of my body, and there are things I’d like to change about it; but I don’t hate it. I don’t even hate my breasts, although they can get in the way, which is annoying.

3) “You have to like sex to be a guy.” I am no less of a man because I lack a sex drive, or because I lack interest in having sex with another person. A desire to have sex is not what makes a man a man.

These are all statements a coworker has used multiple times to tell me I’m not manly enough to transition successfully.

A gender doughnut, on the other hand, allows for people who are Agender or Neutrois to be on that spectrum. It isn’t quite every possible thing, but has a wider range then just “Male, Female, and everything between”.

For the record, I think I end up a rather light blue.
